Being a new dad
Wow! So life starts here then.... or at least a very different life starts here. Already having had my usual sleep pattern bashed about and punished, I should be crawling to bed at every moment our little Leo Finley cries (or wails) but surprisingly and unexpectedly, something has kicked in to my system allowing me to deal with whatever is thrown at me (so far averaging at 3 - 4 hours sleep not necessarily at the same time).
I feel perky, happy, grateful and .... different - not how I expected to feel by any means, especially after being thrown into sleeplessness.
The reasoning behind this I think links back to an ancient survival instinct as 'protector' within my new tribe, with a new feeling of being alert and wakeful despite not getting much sleep. Obviously this doesn't need to be played out and I can also rely on Leo's canine big brother Kaiser to guard and protect which he does without needing to be asked, and so I wile away the evenings hushing our newborn to sleep, giving him my thumb to suckle as he just needs some stimulus even though he is full on breastmilk and reflecting on the little miracle that has changed our lives forever!
I also think that due to my reasonably simple and mostly raw and Vegan diet, I am able to cope with the extra energy requirements my system asks for, and so I can help where needed as well as keep on top of and look after a business, home, dog and wife!
The birth itself was a blur looking back on it but magical nonetheless. Just as Jess was starting to get light contractions, we were sitting in my car in Asda car park, and I remember thinking how there was something strange in the air, and that I would remember that moment we sat and prepared ourselves, because life was about to change, and definetly for the better!
